```html NICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

This unit focuses on providing intensive care for neonatal patients.

  • Number of Beds: 24 licensed spots
  • Number of Staff: 41
  • Staff Types:
    • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse with an assignment; no nursing aids utilized. Staffing depends on acuity.
    • Night Shift: same as above
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:4
  • Type of Equipment: Level 3, including oscillators, vents, bubble CPAP, central lines, ABG machine, and telemedicine.
  • EMR: Meditech

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Required Skills:
    • Minimum 1-year current acute care hospital NICU RN experience
    • BLS & NRP certification
    • Level III or Level IV NICU experience
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Prior experience with Meditech
    • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
    • PALS certification

Procedures and Responsibilities

The following procedures are commonly performed in this unit:

  • Circumcisions, pneumothorax taps, intubations, and assistance with chest tubes
  • Administration of medications, blood transfusions, and handoff communications
  • Blood draws from various sources (arterial, heel, and venous)
  • Observation of transitions in the NICU and attendance at high-risk deliveries
