Surgical Technologist

Unit Information

This surgical unit includes 11 suites, staffed for 6-7 openings daily, handling 15-30 cases per day. The team consists of certified professionals, including Registered Nurses (RN) with certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS and Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) with NBSTSA certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a 1:1 patient-to-staff ratio during surgical procedures.
• Utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems such as Cerner and Surginet.
• Assist the Charge RN with daily operating room assignments.
• Participate in call shifts, which include 3 weekday evening/night calls and 3 weekend calls in a 6-week schedule.
• Rotate holidays and maintain standard scrub color, provided by the facility.
• Collaborate with a dedicated trauma and CVOR team for various surgical specializations, excluding transplants.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Surgical Technologist through NBSTSA or equivalent.
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
• Previous experience in an operating room setting preferred.

Work Environment

The surgical unit operates on a schedule of Monday through Friday, utilizing 8 and 12-hour shifts. The staff is supported by a Respiratory Team and Pharmacy available 24/7, and scrub color is provided for all personnel. Floor-specific orientation lasts up to one week or until staff feels comfortable.

Sterile Processing Information

• Technicians must hold certification through IAHCSMM or CBSPD.
• Responsible for equipment use including Sterad, Steris 1, washer disinfection, and steam disinfection.
