Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Unit Information

Location: Dallas, TX

Unit: 3S/PCU

Number of Beds: 24

Staffing: 43 total staff members

  • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 8 RNs, and 24 patients
  • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse and 8 RNs for 24 patients

General Information

Patient Ratios: 1:3

Type of Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, Hillrom, iMobile with Apple, telemetry

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Meditech

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Accountability for actions
  • Knowledge of cardiac drips (such as Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Cardene, and Cardizem)

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with patients and interdisciplinary teams
  • 6 months of PCU experience

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Post-operative care for CABG, AVR/MVR, aortic root repairs, LVAD, and immediate post VATS with chest tubes
  • Care following vascular surgeries, pre/post cath lab and EP procedures including pacemaker/AICD, heart catheterizations, PCIs, and TAVR
  • Bedside procedures such as paracentesis, thoracentesis, and PICC insertion

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Additional Information

Floating Areas: Med-Surg/Telemetry, Orthopedics

Dress Code: Scrub Color/Attire - Royal Blue

Weekend Commitment: 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule
