Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Special Care Nursery

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a Level II Special Care Nursery (SCN). The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 2 years of NICU experience, with Level 2 NICU experience being mandatory and Level 3 NICU experience preferred.

Unit Information

  • Number of Beds: 12 licensed SCN neonatal beds
  • Average Monthly Deliveries: 325 deliveries
  • Average Census: Approximately 10 patients
  • Patient Ratios: Generally 3:1, may adjust depending on patient acuity

Required Certifications

  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • BLS Certification

Common Diagnoses and Types of Patients

The SCN cares for infants 32 weeks gestational age and above. Common patient conditions include:

  • CPAP and High Flow therapy
  • Feeder grower infants
  • Respiratory issues and Sepsis
  • Hyperbilirubinemia

Responsibilities

  • All IVs will be started by SCN nurses, with a certified neonatal PICC team available for specialized procedures.
  • Charge nurses are responsible for managing the shift and attending high-risk deliveries, though they typically do not have a patient assignment.
  • Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are available to assist RNs with patient care duties.

Shifts & Scheduling

  • 12-hour shifts from 7 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Weekend commitment: 3 weekend shifts per month, including one Sunday
  • Holiday commitment: One major and one minor holiday within an assignment

Floating Requirements

NICU travelers may be required to float to a sister hospital's NICU.

Charting System

Cerner is the electronic health record system utilized.

This opportunity is located in a facility in City, State.

Additional Notes

We have Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Pediatricians available in-house 24/7, along with respiratory therapy support. Nurses are not required to titrate drips.
