Description
Position Summary
This position is responsible for performing radiological exams in a safe and efficient manner to produce high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring a positive experience for patients. The role encompasses a full range of diagnostic radiography services.
Essential Functions
- Technical Factors: Utilizes automatic exposure control appropriately and accurately applies technical factors (kVp, mA, time, and distance). Ensures the correct cassette is used and collaborates with the attending physician during exams.
- Positioning Techniques: Effectively images and identifies the appropriate body parts, acquires necessary views, and employs immobilization techniques while practicing sterile techniques.
- Patient Handling: Safely transports, transfers, and positions patients; confirms patient and exam preparations are suitable. Evaluates patients’ mental and physical conditions to minimize risks and ensures safety.
- Clinical and Technical:
- Understand Hospital, Departmental, and examination protocols.
- Utilize a working knowledge of equipment, troubleshoot issues, and communicate with vendors for repairs when necessary.
- Conduct quality assurance on films and equipment.
- Schedule examinations and review daily schedules for updates.
- Complete exams, including Teleradiology of films.
- Apply infection control principles and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
- Monitor patient needs and perform necessary paperwork and archiving.
- Handle confidential information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in professional development through seminars, workshops, and affiliations to stay updated with industry trends.
- Follow safe work practices and policies to ensure the safety of self and others.
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and labor agreements.
- Interface courteously and efficiently with team members and other support groups in alignment with the organization’s values.
- Exhibit a professional demeanor and ensure personal appearance meets job function standards.
- Address any additional responsibilities as required by management to meet organizational objectives.
Work Environment
This role reports to the Imaging Director and collaborates closely with the Imaging team and other departments to provide comprehensive patient care.
Education & Experience
- Education: Enrollment in an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) approved program.
- Certification:
- Washington State Radiologic Technologist Certification, RT (R).
- Registered ARRT(R) certification required.
- CPR certification at Healthcare Provider (HCP) level required within three (3) months of hire.
- Skills/Competencies:
- Competency on equipment as per department checklist.
- Critical thinking skills with resource-seeking and independent problem-solving abilities.
- Accountable actions demonstrating safe and sound judgment in decision-making.
- Ability to care for patients across the age continuum effectively.
Physical Requirements
- Occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Frequent and prolonged standing and walking.
- Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients.
- Moves heavy equipment as needed.
- Requires manual dexterity and mobility.
