Description
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic Float Pool. This position involves providing high-quality care across multiple surgical and medical units. Our healthcare setting focuses on delivering total patient care with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6.
Unit Information
- Float Pool: Med/Onc, 2 surgical units, and 2 medical units
- Total Beds: 128
- Patient Care Assistants: Not available; RNs provide total care
- Telemetry: Limited to occasional strip readings
Patient Demographics
Common diagnoses include surgical services in colorectal, hepatobiliary, bariatric, general, and orthopedic surgery, as well as medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, COPD, kidney, and gastrointestinal conditions.
Experience and Qualifications
- Basic medical/surgical nursing experience is required
- Experience in a large hospital environment is preferred
- First-time travelers will not be considered
- Required certifications: BLS (American Heart Association)
Role Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients in a variety of medical and surgical settings
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver optimal patient outcomes
- Perform routine patient assessments and monitor vital signs
- Ability to troubleshoot basic respiratory equipment; respiratory therapy assistance is readily available
- Maintain effective communication with patients and their families
Shifts and Scheduling
- Standard shifts: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Weekend requirements: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirements: No holiday shifts mandated
- Floating to any Med/Surg pod may be required
Orientation and Training
Employees will receive unit-specific orientation to ensure they are adequately prepared for their role.
Charting System
The facility utilizes Cerner for charting, with a transition to EPIC planned for November 2026.
Other Information
This position does not require RNs to titrate drips or read telemetry strips, as this will be managed by the tele monitoring team.
