6 South -- Post-Surgical: Urology, Bariatric Surgery
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Stepdown team. The unit specializes in post-operative care for patients undergoing urological and bariatric surgeries, as well as managing various post-surgical conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to post-surgical patients.
- Monitor and assess patient conditions, ensuring optimal recovery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members for patient-centered care.
- Educate patients and families on post-operative care and recovery.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the unit.
Contract Details
- Orientation Start Dates: 10/05/2026, 10/19/2026, 11/02/2026, 11/16/2026, 11/30/2026
- Contract Length: Preferred 26-51 weeks; shorter contracts considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Shift: 12-hour shifts with 36 hours guaranteed per week.
- Weekend Rotation: Required every other weekend.
- Holiday Rotation: Eligible for 1 holiday off; additional holidays may be required.
Qualifications
- Licensure: Must hold a valid KS or multistate nursing license.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-year progressive care/step down experience required.
- Certifications: AHA BLS required at time of submission.
- Education: ADN or BSN required.
Unit Overview
The Surgical Stepdown unit comprises 28 beds and provides care for patients recovering from various surgical procedures, including bariatric and urological surgeries, as well as managing post-operative complications such as infections, GI diseases, and surgical interventions.

- Patient Ratios: 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Charting System: Epic; test-out option available.
- Jewelry and Body Adornment Policy: Visible tattoos permitted; facial piercings accepted if professional.
- Vaccination Requirements: Immunity status documentation for Hep B, MMR, Varicella, TDaP, Influenza, and TB.
