Description
Unit Overview
The position is located on the 4th Floor East Wing, operating within a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a total of 55 beds. The unit primarily serves an adult patient population, with rare pediatric cases for individuals aged 15 and older.
Patient Care Details
- Common Patient Diagnoses: CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, weakness.
- Common Drips/Medications: PCA pumps for pain management, Cardizem, insulin.
Staffing and Support
- RN Patient Ratio: 1:4 for both days and nights.
- Nursing Assistant Support: Yes, available on the unit.
- Additional Support Staff: Includes educators, care managers, social workers, dieticians, physical therapy (PT), and occupational therapy (OT).
- Charge Nurse: Yes, present during shifts.
Working Environment
The role involves 12-hour shifts, with expected hours from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630. Nurses are required to work every other weekend. Scrubs must be navy blue for RNs and ceil blue for CNAs.
Qualifications
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
- Competency Requirement: Telemetry experience is essential.
- EMR System: Experience with EPIC is required.
Unit Challenges and Expectations
The unit faces challenges related to staffing and patient experience, with a focus on improving hourly rounding and responsiveness. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to collaborate with team members effectively. The work environment is characterized by a tight-knit team that supports one another.
Cancellation Policy
The facility reserves the right to cancel shifts up to 4 times for assignments of 13 weeks or longer, and up to 3 shifts for shorter assignments.
