Description
Unit Information
This unit is a busy medical telemetry unit featuring 22 beds, focusing on the care of patients with conditions such as Stroke, TIA, Seizure, TBI, and mixed medical telemetry.
Certifications Required
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIHSS
Experience
A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a specialty setting is required; however, first-time travelers are welcome to apply.
Nursing Responsibilities
- No nursing titration of drips is required on this unit.
- Common medications include Heparin, Amiodarone, and Cardizem, administered via established protocols.
- Nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips, and a passing score on a dysrhythmia exam is required.
Support Staff
The unit is supported by 2 Central Telemetry Monitor Techs and has a ratio of 1-2 Unit Aides available to assist nursing staff.
Shift & Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM.
- Schedules are prepared approximately 3 weeks in advance, with self-scheduling allowed based on seniority.
- No block scheduling is offered, and shift trades are available.
Weekend & Holiday Requirements
- Four weekend shifts are required within a four-week schedule.
- Weekend shifts include Saturday/Sunday for days and Friday/Saturday for nights.
- Holidays will be rotated into the permanent staff schedule.
Floating Requirements
Nurses may be required to float to the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) or Med/Surg departments as needed.
Dress Code
The required scrub color is navy. Scrubs are not provided.
Orientation
New hires will undergo a unit-specific orientation lasting one shift.
Additional Information
This unit emphasizes Bedside Shift Report and is committed to enhancing Patient Experience and core measures related to stroke care. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork and be self-motivated. The environment is traveler-friendly.
Cancellation Policy
The facility reserves the right to cancel shifts, with up to 4 shifts allowed for assignments of 13 weeks or longer, and 3 shifts for shorter assignments.
Charting System
All documentation is performed using the Cerner charting system.
Qualifications
- COVID Vaccine required (certification must be provided).
Care Setting
The position is set in an acute care environment, classified as Trauma Level 2.

The cafeteria is a hit and miss. Some days they have great sea food with saffron rice! Some days microwaved food :D. But there is alwaaaaays, pizza available ;)
