Position Description

Travelers will be scheduled according to facility policy and are expected to work every other weekend and holidays as part of a rotation with staff employees.

General Information

• Location: North Charleston, SC
• Unit: ICU
• Number of Beds: 28 - Mixed ICU
• Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:3 for inpatient PCU/med surg admissions
• Unit Staffing Description: Registered Nurses (RNs)
• Type of Equipment: i-mobile phones for each care team member, mobile computer workstation on wheels
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling Requirements: 3 - 12 hour shifts per week including every other weekend
• Floating Policy: Travelers are the first to float and may be assigned to the emergency department or PCU for patient care.
• Patient Experience Requirements: Bedside shift report is used for patient handoff during transfers of care.

Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIH Stroke Scale

Hiring Profile

Requested Skill Set: A minimum of 36 months RN experience, including at least one year in an ICU setting. Previous successful travel nursing assignment preferred, especially in facilities using Meditech.

Must Have Skills

• Ability to care for 1-3 ICU patients, including comfort in managing patients on ventilators.
• Proficiency in reading telemetry strips.

Advanced Skills

• CRRT
• Advanced Hemodynamics
• Phlebotomy
• Nurses administer breathing treatments outside of the ICU (Respiratory treatments: inhalers and nebulizers)

Procedures Performed on Unit

• Post-operative day 0 CABG (fresh heart from OR)
• Impellas, balloon pumps, and Swan Ganz catheterization
• Advanced hemodynamic monitoring
• Neuro procedures for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhages, including EVDs, bolts (Codman), and Arctic Sun for induced hypothermia

Qualifications

• BSN preferred
• Advanced certifications preferred
• TNCC certification preferred

Dress Code

Required uniform: Navy attire.

Additional Information

We are willing to train travelers who are interested in becoming skilled Neuro ICU or Cardiovascular ICU nurses. There will also be opportunities to train in caring for patients with head and neck flap procedures. The unit features advanced technology and experienced staff, contributing to a supportive work environment.
