Description
General Information
We are seeking a skilled Occupational Therapist with experience in Acute Care settings. Candidates with 1 year of experience and a strong understanding of high acuity and complex patient care are encouraged to apply. First-time travelers are also welcome.
Patient Types
- Post-operative Cardiac and General Cardiovascular patients
- Post-operative Orthopedic/Joint procedure patients
- Trauma patients
- Post-stroke patients
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Current Alabama Occupational Therapy license
Skills Required
- Efficiency and flexibility in a fast-paced environment
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Ability to evaluate, treat, and independently manage a caseload
- Experience and willingness to assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Experience working with students in a teaching facility preferred
Support on the Unit
- Supervisor available on-site
- Manager support
- Other therapists present, typically 6 OTs on shift
- Multidisciplinary team collaboration
Charting System & Equipment
The charting system used is Cerner, but prior experience is not required.
Floating
No floating between facilities is required.
Orientation
- Day 1: General hospital orientation and learning modules
- Day 2: Departmental training and Cerner refresher
- Typically, 1 week of orientation prior to taking on a caseload
Scheduling
- Hours are generally from 08:00 AM to 04:30 PM, subject to department needs
- The department does not support 10-hour shifts
- Weekend rotation may be required, depending on department needs
- Holiday work may be necessary; time off requests for holidays should be made in advance
