PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for a position in a Stepdown Unit. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care and be capable of handling a fast-paced environment characterized by frequent admissions and discharges.

Unit Information

Unit Type: Stepdown
Number of Beds: 22
Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:4

Common Diagnoses

Heart failure
Atrial fibrillation
Respiratory distress
Stroke

Key Responsibilities

Titrate drips as needed. Common titratable and set-rate drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Nitro.
Read and interpret telemetry strips; RNs must be capable of understanding their own strips.
Provide care for patients using CPAP; troubleshooting required.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
Float to the ICU when appropriate based on experience.

Work Schedule

Shift: 12-hour night shifts
Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirements: 1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday per year
Scheduling: Cyclic scheduling with specific shift timings

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
Certifications Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Must pass an open book exam on skills learned during orientation, achieving a minimum score of 90%.
Valid driver's license required for employment eligibility check.

Additional Information

Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas.
Experienced nursing aids/patient care technicians available in a ratio of 1:10.
Ideal candidate attributes include a positive attitude, teamwork orientation, and a commitment to patient care.
Orientation consists of 1 departmental-specific 12-hour shift.
