Unit Information

Join our dynamic operating room team, which consists of 11 suites, staffed daily for 6-7 openings. Our facility handles an average of 15-30 cases per day.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) with certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with NBSTSA certification and BLS

Patient Care Ratios

Maintain a patient care ratio of 1:1, ensuring personalized attention for each case.

Technology and Equipment

• Electronic Medical Records system: Cerner, Surginet
• Telehealth services available
• Ventilators accessible as needed

Team Structure

• Charge Nurse: Charge RN responsible for daily assignments
• Operating Room Technicians: Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) present
• On-call support includes 1 trauma surgeon and 1 anesthesiologist

Call Requirements

• 3 evening/night call shifts and 3 weekend call shifts within a 6-week schedule
• Response time for call is 30 minutes

Work Schedule

Shifts generally occur from Monday to Friday, with both 8-hour and 12-hour options available. Holiday rotations are part of the core staff schedule.

Orientation

Floor-specific orientation typically lasts one week or until the staff member feels comfortable.

Common Procedures

The OR team specializes in various types of cases including orthopedic, neurological, and general procedures, excluding transplants. Dedicated CVOR and trauma teams are available.

Scrubbing Responsibilities

Registered Nurses are not required to scrub in for procedures. Staff utilize preference cards during operations.

Sterile Processing Information

• Certification: All technicians must be certified through IAHCSMM or CBSPD.
• Equipment: Steris and Sterad systems, washer disinfection, and steam disinfection are utilized.
• Duties: Responsible for decontamination, clean packaging, and sterile processing.
• Shifts: 8-hour shifts with variable start times; Saturday shifts may also be available.
