Description
General Information
We welcome applications from travelers with varying experience levels. Candidates with 1 year of experience and familiarity with acute care are encouraged to apply. First-time travelers are also welcome.
Patient Types
- High acuity and complex patients including:
- Post-operative cardiac and general cardiovascular patients
- Post-orthopedic/joint procedure patients
- Trauma patients
- Post-stroke patients
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Current Occupational Therapy license in Alabama
Skills Required
- Efficiency and flexibility are crucial
- Team player with a commitment to supporting the interdisciplinary team
- Ability to independently evaluate, treat, and manage a caseload
- Experience with mentioned patient types and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Comfortable working in a teaching facility with students
Support on the Unit
- Supervisor
- Manager
- Other Therapists – typically 6 OTs on shift
- Multidisciplinary team
Charting System/Equipment
Experience with Cerner is not required.
Floating
No floating between facilities.
Orientation
- Day 1: General hospital orientation and learning modules
- Day 2: Departmental training and Cerner refresher
- Typically, 1 week of orientation before managing a caseload
Scheduling
- Hours: Typically 0800-1630, with potential variations based on departmental needs
- No support for 10-hour shifts
- Occasional weekend rotation based on departmental needs during the contract
- No call required
- Holiday scheduling will depend on department needs; requests for time off should be made for holidays not able to work
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: Any professional color; matching top and bottom required, avoiding eccentric colors
