• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• BLS/BCLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• Valid NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through adherence to the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. This includes utilizing the nursing process through assessment of patient needs, creating a plan of care to address those needs, implementing nursing interventions, and evaluating patient care outcomes for a diverse age range from neonates to geriatrics. Scheduled assignments may vary based on community events impacting Emergency Department patient volumes.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Triages each patient entering the emergency care system to prioritize care based on physical and psycho-social needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow.
• Conducts hourly rounding within the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room for patients in queue, documenting nursing histories including chief complaints and relevant health information.
• Develops and implements a care plan based on continuous assessments, ensuring that necessary supplies and equipment are accessible and functional.
• Updates the care plan regularly to meet patient and family needs through continuous assessment and evaluation.
• Manages various types of complications and emergencies in accordance with established policies and ENA standards, while monitoring patient health status and directing appropriate interventions.
• Documents patient responses to interventions and delivers competent medical care based on these findings.
• Educates patients and families on treatment plans before initiation and provides ongoing information about health status and referrals.
• Documents understanding and retention of discharge teaching provided to patients and their families.

Non-Essential Functions

• Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Holiday coverage is required.
