Unit Information

The Trauma Stepdown Unit is a crucial component of post-operative and acute care, featuring:

• Number of Beds: 25
• Staff: 44 FTEs (57 staff members)
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 (1:5 maximum for stepdown)

Shift Details

Night Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM

General Requirements

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

• ACLS, BLS, and NIH certifications
• Excellent customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following skills are preferred:

• Experience in Trauma and Orthopedic nursing
• Familiarity with Meditech EMR

Typical Procedures Performed on the Unit

Nurses in this unit care for patients requiring various types of surgical and medical interventions, including:

• Trauma Surgery
• Bariatric Surgery
• Vascular Surgery
• Traumatic Brain Injury
• General Surgery
• Urological Surgery
• Orthopedic Surgery
• Neuro / Spine Surgery
• GI Bleed / Endoscopy
• Pulmonary Embolus
• Neurological diagnoses, including CVA, TIA, TBI, and more
• Management of sepsis, alcohol withdrawal, and post-operative care

Equipment and Monitoring

The unit employs a range of medical equipment and monitoring technologies, focusing on:

• Telemetry monitoring
• Regular vital assessments every four hours
