Shift Information

Day shift: 0615-1845, 3 days/week.

Position Summary

An experienced Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing observation and inpatient care to assigned patients in the Medical-Surgical Unit. The RN will assess and prioritize patient care, administer nursing interventions, monitor patients, document assessments, educate patients and families, collaborate with healthcare providers, and support continuity of care to help prevent readmissions.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of Medical-Surgical or Emergency Room experience.
• Previous travel nursing experience.
• Cerner Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience.
• Graduate of an accredited RN program.
• Current Colorado or Compact RN license.
• Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Basic computer skills and electronic health record experience.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide patient care within the RN scope of practice in accordance with physician/provider orders.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, nursing interventions, reassessments, and evaluation of care provided.
• Monitor patients for changes in condition and report abnormal findings to the appropriate provider.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, blood products, and other treatments accurately and timely.
• Operate infusion pumps and document accurately in the electronic health record.
• Complete required Cerner documentation in accordance with competencies, training, policies, and procedures.
• Use Care Compass to organize and document assessments, care tasks, procedures, and patient education.
• Perform age-specific nursing care, including assessment and reassessment of patient condition.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation, and take appropriate action when needed.
• Provide patient and family education related to disease processes, treatment plans, medications, pain management, wound care, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
• Transfer care using SBAR format when appropriate.
• Follow infection prevention practices, universal precautions, and National Patient Safety Goals.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
• Collaborate with providers, staff, and other departments to support interdisciplinary patient care.
• Serve as a mentor to other nursing staff and support continuous learning.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role is performed in a hospital setting and may involve exposure to work-related stress and various environmental challenges. The position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and assisting with patient movement and positioning. Candidates should be prepared for potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and other hazardous materials.
