Job Summary

An opportunity is available for an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to join a Neuro Intensive Care Unit. The unit specializes in the care of complex neurological patients and offers state-of-the-art facilities and support.

Position Details

• Unit: McAuley ICU (Neuro ICU)
• Unit Type: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• Number of Beds: 20
• Patient Ratios: 1:1 - 2
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner
• Charges Nursing Staff: Yes, typically does not take patients but will relieve during breaks
• Nurse Aides: Available as Safety Attendants (sitters)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Participation required, rotating with core staff
• Scrub Color: Navy (undershirts must also be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy)
• Telemetry Support: Yes, must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Ventilator Support: Yes
• Provider Availability: Hospitalist or Intensivist available on-site
• Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
• Pharmacy Services: Available 24/7 with ICU pharmacy during daytime hours
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts starting at 6:45 PM; self-scheduling available
• Orientation: Floor-specific orientation lasting 1-2 days with a preceptor
• Common Diagnoses: Include CVA, ICB, neuro surgeries, craniotomies, neuro interventional radiology, and ventriculostomies

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a Neuro ICU setting preferred
• Required Certifications:
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Additional Information

Applications should include two supervisory references, including one within the last 12 months and another within the last 3 years of work experience. Candidates are expected to float to sister facilities as needed. The unit has a strong stroke program and is known for its dedicated neuro center.
