Description
General Information
This position involves working in a Cardiovascular Operating Room setting.
- Beds:
- 2 Operating Rooms
- 20 Pre-Op Bays
- 14 PACU Bays
Required Experience
- 2 years of CVOR experience for both RN and CST with Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience.
Patient Types
Focus on various cardiothoracic surgeries, including:
- Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
- Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
- Valve replacements
- Thoracic cases such as lobectomies and hernia repairs
- Generator exchanges and lead extractions
- Femoral-popliteal bypass and open vascular cases
- Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) and carotid surgeries
May also be required to float to Main Operating Room.
Patient Ratios
- One surgical technologist per operating room (1:1 ratio).
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program (required)
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification (preferred)
Required Education
Associate Degree in a Healthcare-related field or surgical technology certification is required.
Skills Required
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CVOR with the ability to work independently in various procedures, including:
- CABG
- TAVR
- Valve replacements
- Robotic thoracic cases
- Generator exchanges
- Lead extractions
- Cardiac organ procurement/harvesting
- Fem-pop bypass
This role involves circulating only, with no scrubbing duties.
Support on the Unit
- Team composition includes:
- RN/First Assist/Surgical Technologist
- A "2 Tech" Model where both techs are involved in each case.
- Nurse Clinician
- Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN)
- Service Line Lead
- Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
- Scheduler
- Preference Card Analyst
- Anesthesia professionals
Charting System/Equipment
- EPIC (required)
- Omnicell
- Alaris
Orientation
CST orientation is comprised of five 8-hour days.
Scheduling
Shift options include 8 or 10-hour schedules, to be determined during the interview. Weekend rotation involves on-call duties, with one overnight shift per week and every third weekend.
Holiday Expectations
There may be a requirement to work on holidays. Approval for time off must be obtained from the Manager.
