Description
Job Description
The ICU Registered Nurse is responsible for the care and management of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. This position requires expertise in patient assessment, monitoring, and intervention, utilizing advanced skills and methodologies critical for patient safety and health outcomes.
Position Details
- Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Required Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a critical care setting
Required Certifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Position Responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate patient conditions, including vital signs and symptoms.
- Administer medications and treatments based on the patient’s needs and physician orders.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams for optimal patient care.
- Perform assessments and provide comprehensive nursing care for ICU patients.
Nurse-Patient Ratios
The nurse-patient ratio is typically 1:2 for ICU patients, adjusting to 1:5 for medical patients in cases of downgrades, and 1:4 in Progressive Care Units (PCU).
Work Environment
- Staffing includes nurse aids/patient care techs at a ratio of 1 until 20 patients and 2 up to 24 patients.
- Critical care coverage is available 24/7, including a dedicated E-ICU staff.
- Registered Nurses are required to read and interpret telemetry strips.
Equipment and Procedures
RNs are required to interact with various respiratory therapy equipment, including ventilators, BiPAPs, and high-flow oxygen delivery systems.
Schedule and Orientation
- Shifts: 0630-1900 or 1830-0700
- Orientation: Initial system orientation followed by 1-2 shifts specific to the unit.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirements: Varies based on unit needs
- Floating Requirements: May float to PCU and other medical floors as needed.
Dress Code
Scrub attire in navy blue is required.
Additional Requirements
Upon submission, candidates must provide a valid driver's license. Candidates living within a 50-mile radius are encouraged to apply. All RTO (Requests Time Off) should be submitted upfront as additional requests may not be approved during the contract period.
