Position Overview
The Emergency Room (ER) Nurse plays a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care during urgent medical situations. This position requires a strong background in trauma care, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and the ability to respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Job Details
- Shift: Days and Evenings; must be flexible with start times: 7a, 9a, 10a, 11a, 1p
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Minimum of 4 weekend shifts per schedule period; must also work 2 of 3 holidays during the holiday season
Unit Information
- Unit Type: ER (Emergency Room)
- Number of Beds: 60 beds, including 14 fast track beds
- Patient Ratios: 1:3-4
- Common Diagnoses: Trauma, Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVAs), Gunshot Wounds (GSW), strokes, myocardial infarctions, high-risk obstetrics, and pediatric emergencies
- Due to the nature of the role, nurses may float between ER locations
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent ER/Trauma Level 1 experience required
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN)
- Additional Requirements: Pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of receiving an offer and complete a simulation lab assessment during orientation.
Equipment and Support
- Telemetry: GE Lifepacks monitors
- Ventilators: Puritan Bennett 840, Drager, Vision BiPAP, V60s
- IV Team: Paramedics can start IVs, and pharmacy is available 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
Additional Notes
This unit averages approximately 80,000 patient visits per year and is recognized as both a chest pain center and a certified stroke center. Nurses will work as part of a collaborative team that includes hospitalists and intensivists, ensuring comprehensive care for all patients.
