Job Overview
This position is for a Nurse Shift Manager in the Labor and Delivery department. The ideal candidate will possess strong charge experience and be responsible for overseeing patient care in various areas, including Labor and Delivery, postpartum, and women's health. This role requires managing high-risk obstetrics and ensuring the safe recovery of mothers and newborns.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage patient care in Labor and Delivery, recovery, postpartum, and women’s health.
- Supervise nursing staff and coordinate care during shifts.
- Follow California state guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios in various settings.
- Participate in high-risk deliveries and support the transfer of patients with major complications.
- Administer and monitor advanced fetal monitoring practices.
- Ensure compliance with safety initiatives and evidence-based practices within the unit.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including chart audits and maternal mental health screenings.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including perinatology specialists.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a minimum of two years of experience in Labor and Delivery.
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring.
- Experience with Cerner EMR is preferred.
- Ability to start IVs independently.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to float between Labor and Delivery, postpartum, and other women’s health areas as necessary.
Additional Information
- Unit features 18 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) rooms, 6 triage spaces, and shared overflow beds.
- Weekend schedule requires 4 shifts every four weeks, typically with two shifts together and two spread apart.
- Holidays: Must work one major holiday and one minor holiday per year.
- Mandatory dress code includes wearing navy blue scrubs, with provided scrubs for Labor and Delivery use.
- Unit has a strong focus on patient safety and quality care, striving for best practice adherence.
- Continuous support is provided by pharmacy and respiratory therapy teams, available 24/7.
