Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

Join a dynamic Pediatric Step Down Unit that provides specialized care in a high-paced environment. This unit features:

  • 36 beds, all private rooms equipped with parent sleeping accommodations
  • A dedicated staff of 60 professionals
  • Patient care ratios of 1:3 for step-down patients and 1:4 for basic care patients
  • Utilization of Phillips Monitors and Meditech EMR

Typical Hiring Profile

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 1 year of current Pediatric RN experience
  • BLS and NRP certification
  • Comfort with high flow oxygen, spinal fusions, and chest tubes

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Meditech EMR

Unit Procedures

The following procedures are routinely performed within the unit:

  • Placement of nasogastric tubes (NGTs)
  • Foley catheter insertions
  • TP tube placements
  • Peripheral intravenous (PIV) access
  • Phlebotomy (accuvein available)
  • Occasionally, lumbar punctures (LPs)

Unit Policies

Additional guidelines for the unit include:

  • On-site parking available at no cost
  • Required evening or night shifts for new travelers; day shift not available for first contracts
  • Priority consideration for candidates with extensive travel experience
  • Every other weekend is required for all staff

This unit prides itself on flexibility in scheduling, ensuring that travelers can coordinate their requests alongside full-time employees. All patient care types are accepted within the department except for trauma and burns, making it an enriching environment for professional growth.
