Unit: Peds Step Down-4CN
Location: Denver, CO
Floor: 4th Floor
Number of Beds: 36 (all private rooms with parent sleeping accommodations)
Number of Staff: 60
General Information
This department provides care for a range of pediatric patients requiring step-down services.
- Staffing:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse (patient free), 1-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), occasionally a Clinical Nurse Coordinator
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse (patient free), 1-2 PCTs, occasionally a Clinical Nurse Coordinator
- Patient Ratios:
- Mixed care: Step-down patients are staffed at 1:3; basic care patients are staffed at 1:4
- Equipment: Phillips Monitors
- Electronic Medical Record: Meditech
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Minimum 1-year current Pediatric RN experience
- BLS & NRP certifications
- Comfort with high flow oxygen, spinal fusions, chest tubes
Preferred Skills:
- Prior Meditech experience
Typical Procedures
- Nasogastric Tubes (NGTs)
- Foleys
- TP Tubes
- Peripheral Intravenous Catheters (PIVs)
- Phlebotomy (AccuVein available)
- Occasionally, lumbar punctures (LPs)

Unit Guidelines
- On-site parking available, with a bridge connecting directly to the department. Free of charge.
- New travelers are not placed on the day shift; candidates must be willing to work nights.
- Prefer candidates with extensive travel experience.
- Weekend shifts are required on a rotating basis.
Additional Information
We aim to provide travelers with flexible schedules and work closely with them to accommodate their requests alongside full-time employees. This unit handles a variety of cases, excluding trauma and burn patients.
