Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a fast-paced Patient Care Unit (PCU). The RN will be responsible for providing exceptional care to a diverse patient population, including adults and geriatrics with common diagnoses such as cardiac conditions, nephrology, strokes, diabetes, and patients requiring continuous EEG monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer medications and intravenous (IV) therapies, including titrating drips such as Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications.
- Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to ensure the best patient outcomes.
- Perform nursing assessments, develop care plans, and provide patient education.
- Able to effectively communicate with other team members and patients to enhance the quality of care.
- Assist with the onboarding and orientation of new nursing staff as required.
Unit Details
This department has 35 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5. A Charge Nurse is present on each shift to oversee operations, and nurse aids/patient care technicians support the nursing staff with a ratio of 1:10 or 2:20.
Shifts and Scheduling
- Day Shift: 0630 - 1900
- Night Shift: 1830 - 0700
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every third holiday
Orientation and Training
New hires will undergo a week of onboarding, followed by 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation. RNs will be required to pass a comprehensive open-book exam during orientation, with a minimum score of 90% to continue in the position.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) are required.
- Candidates must be able to comply with the fingernail policy, which prohibits artificial nails in patient care settings.
- Must have a valid driver's license, as this will be used to determine eligibility based on distance requirements.
