Job Overview
Join our dynamic team in the Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit (CSICU). We are seeking a proactive and confident nurse with specialized experience and a passion for providing high-acuity critical care to patients recovering from cardiovascular surgeries.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients in the Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans and interventions.
- Manage complex cases, including pre and postoperative care for CABG, LVADs, IABP, and CRRT.
- Support intubation and extubation processes, aiming for timely recovery.
- Monitor and interpret EKG strips, vital signs, and respond accordingly.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of healthcare providers, including Hospitalists and Intensivists, providing cohesive patient-centered care.
- Assist in training and orienting new staff members as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.
- Previous travel nursing experience is required.
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
- Ability to float to the Medical Surgical Neuro Intensive Care Unit when necessary.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to patient care.
Work Environment
This role involves working in a high-acuity environment with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1 to 1:2. Expect diverse patient cases and protocols for cardiovascular recovery. The unit features advanced monitoring and support systems, including Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services available 24/7.
Shift Information
- 12-hour night shifts with a guaranteed 36 hours per week.
- Rotating weekend and holiday shifts with self-scheduling options.
Additional Notes
- Must adhere to uniform policies, with navy scrubs required.
- Orientation includes 1 to 2 days on the unit with a preceptor.
- Travelers will not take LVADs until validated by core staff.
- Floating to other facilities may occur, but mid-shift floats are rare.
