Job Description
We are seeking qualified Registered Nurses (RNs) for holiday coverage in a Med/Surg unit specializing in Infectious Disease. The successful candidates will be expected to start by November 14 and be available to work during key holiday periods. Specific availability will be discussed during the interview process.
Holiday Coverage Requirements
- Major Holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day
- Minor Holidays: Day before and after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve
Unit Information
The Med/Surg 2N Infectious Disease unit has:
- 32 Beds
- Nurse-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5, may adjust to 1:6 for higher acuity patients
- Current COVID unit, also accommodates Med/Surg overflow
Essential Qualifications
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS
- Experience in a Level 1 trauma setting is required.
- Experience in larger facilities with high surgery volume and high acuity patients is preferred.
- Comfortable with lines and chest tubes.
Patient Care Responsibilities
Registered Nurses will be responsible for:
- Titrating drips as necessary, including heparin and potential cardiac drips on transfer to cardiac units.
- Reading telemetry strips; each unit has tele capability with centralized monitoring.
Staffing and Shift Information
Details related to shifts and scheduling:
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts available (7a-7p or 7p-7a).
- Weekend requirement: Standard of every other or two weekends per month, with potential for increased need.
- Orientation includes a comprehensive overview, paperwork, system logins, and unit familiarization.
- Two additional shifts will be worked alongside a preceptor.
Additional Requirements
- Floating may occur within skillset among various Med/Surg units; core staff will handle higher acuity patients.
- No standby or call requirement.
- Scrubs: Solid colors and professional attire required; specific colors are not mandated.
Fingerprint Requirement
A fingerprint process is mandatory:
- In-person processing can be done in Jackson or Grenada, MS, the week prior to the start (48-hour turnaround).
- Remote processing may take 10-14 days.
