Description
Position Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide high-quality patient care within a medical surgical unit that focuses on orthopedic trauma. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment with a diverse patient population. The RN will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes for patients recovering from various conditions, including joint replacements, fractures, and other medical issues.
Job Details
Unit: Med Surg Ortho Trauma
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years
- Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred.

Patient Care Responsibilities
- Manage a patient load of 5-6 patients per nurse.
- Utilize telemetry monitoring systems to observe patients and respond to their needs.
- Administer medications, including titratable and set rate drips such as heparin and lidocaine.
- Conduct hourly rounding and ensure patient responsiveness.
- Assist with patient admissions and discharges, maintaining a smooth workflow throughout the shift.
Team Collaboration
- Work alongside nursing aides and patient care technicians with a ratio of 1 aide for every 10-20 patients.
- Coordinate care with tele/monitor technicians while maintaining awareness of telemetry strips.
- Participate in daily team meetings and contribute to a positive work environment.
Orientation and Training
New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation program, including:
- 2 days of unit-specific training.
- An open book exam on skills learned during orientation, with a required passing score of 90%.
Scheduling and Availability
- Shifts are scheduled from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM and 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM.
- Weekend coverage is required, typically every other weekend, determined by department needs.
- Holiday coverage may be required; 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year's.
- Some flexibility for block scheduling may be permitted.

- Mechanical lifts are available in every other room to assist with patient mobility.

Poor communication between residents/ attendings l which affects what is told to nursing and communicated to nursing. This was a huge issue working here. Also the resources are low, things always out of stock on the floor, only one translator / bladder scanner per floor , things like that.
