Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiac Observation

Position Description

The Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Observation Unit provides a high level of care for patients undergoing cardiac procedures within the Cath Lab. This role involves evaluating assigned patients, planning and implementing nursing care, and documenting all aspects of patient care. You will assist physicians during examinations and procedures, perform various patient tests, and administer medications in accordance with your nursing license.

The Cardiac Observation Unit (COU) is dedicated to preparing patients for procedures and providing recovery care post-procedure. Our team excels in managing high-risk, high-acuity patients and takes pride in achieving excellent patient outcomes. Bedside procedures, including Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) and Cardioversions (CV), are performed within this unit.

Responsibilities

  • Admit patients and conduct assessments.
  • Prepare patients for Cath lab procedures by completing the pre-procedure checklist, starting IVs, and preparing access.
  • Prepare patients for Cardioversions (CV) and Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE).
  • Recover patients who have received conscious sedation during catheterization.
  • Sedate, circulate, and document bedside procedures, including CV and TEE.
  • Discharge patients, ensuring proper teaching, documentation, and physical discharge procedures are followed.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse license in Arizona or a compact state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • At least 2 years of nursing experience; consideration given for backgrounds in PACU, ICU, telemetry, Cath lab, or surgery centers on a case-by-case basis.

Shift Information

Availability for varying shifts, typically consisting of three 12-hour shifts. Call requirements are rotational, including weekends.
