Unit Information

Location: Salem, VA

Unit: East Progressive Unit

• Number of Beds: 15
• Number of Staff: 22 (RN/PCT)
• Day Shift Staffing: 3-4 RNs, 2 PCTs, 1 Clinical Coordinator
• Night Shift Staffing: 3-4 RNs, 1 PCT
• Patient Ratios: 4-5 patients per nurse
• Type of Equipment: Cardiac Telemetry, Chest tubes, Cardiac drips (NTG, Cardizem, Amiodarone), Post-catheterization patients, post-surgical patients (open heart, lung surgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery)
• Electronic Medical Record: Meditech

Typical Hiring Profile

Required Skills:

• PCU experience
• Knowledge of cardiac rhythms and surgical patients
• Chest tube management and epidural management

Preferred Skills:

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Strong time management skills, particularly in high turnover situations

Typical Procedures

• Post-cardiac catheterization, electrophysiological studies, device placements
• Groin management
• Chest tube management
• Post-operative care for surgical patients
• Management of critical drips, epidurals, and PCA

Required Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Floating Areas

• ICU taking PCU-type patients
• PCU
• Med-surg (5 patients)

Dress Code

Scrub Color: Navy or white, with the option to mix and match.

Weekend Requirements

Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month required.

Experience Requirement

Minimum of 2 years of experience is required.
