Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality care to patients in the emergency department and will be responsible for a variety of patient care tasks, including triage, assessment, and treatment.

Job Details

• Unit Type: Emergency Room (ER)
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Years of Experience: Minimum of 3 years in an emergency department
• Shift Schedule: 12-hour shifts with varying start times, including evenings
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays

Key Responsibilities

• Provide care for patients ranging from minors to trauma cases as part of a Level 2 trauma center.
• Conduct patient assessments and develop nursing care plans.
• Perform lab draws and administer medications as prescribed.
• Monitor patient vitals, read and interpret EKG strips.
• Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
• Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records (EMR) using Cerner - FirstNet.

Patient Care Environment

• Fast Track Beds: 5 (2 exam, 3 beds)
• Total Beds: 26
• Daily Patient Volume: 40-160 patients
• Nurse to Patient Ratios: 3:1 or 4:1
• Common Diagnoses: STEMI and CVA, as well as a variety of other emergency cases.

Qualifications

• Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS
• Education: Registered Nurse (RN) degree from an accredited institution.
• Experience: 3-5 years of prior experience in an emergency department required.

Additional Information

• Telemetry/Monitor Techs: No dedicated monitor techs; RNs are responsible for interpreting EKGs.
• Pharmacy & RT Availability: Both are available 24/7.
• Patient Population: Diverse, including underprivileged and homeless individuals, with a significant incidence of drug-related issues.
• Orientation: Comprehensive training including trauma modules and hands-on experience with a preceptor.
• Scrub Colors: Navy Blue for RNs, Hunter Green for aides.
