Cardiac Operating Room Surgical Technologist

Job Duties:

The Adult Cardiac Operating Room provides care for a diverse range of patients, including those undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), and heart failure treatments such as ventricular assist devices (VADs), ECMO, artificial hearts, and heart transplants. Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, the surgical staff attends to patients of all ages.

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for:

• Preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Assisting the surgical team from the scrub position during operations.
• Ensuring proper care and handling of instruments and facilitating room turnover between cases.
• Maintaining sterile technique and ensuring the safe handling of sharps.
• Performing surgical counts as per hospital policy.
• Demonstrating proper handling of solutions and pharmacologic agents under the direction of a registered nurse.

Job Requirements:

• NBSTSA Certification or relevant experience as a Surgical Technologist within a healthcare setting for a cumulative total of one year or more, occurring within the four years immediately prior to January 2015.
• Two (2) years of recent experience in a cardiac operating room.
• Ability to scrub and circulate during surgical procedures.

Certification(s):

• BLS (American Heart Association ONLY)
