Surgery General (Major) RN

Location: Peoria, Illinois Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Days, 10-hour days with call (40 hours per week)

Required Qualifications

• BLS certification
• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the licensing application has been initiated
• Negative drug screen for all panels (facility is a drug-free campus)
• 2 years of general, gynecology, and urology experience
• Must have general surgery, urology, GYN, and ENT experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in facilities and ORs of similar size within the last 2 years

Schedule and Call

• Shifts: 7:00 to 17:30 or 12:30 to 23:00, equaling 36 or 40 hours per week based on contract
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling is determined by need
• Weeknight call: 1 per week, with call hours of 15:30-23:00, 17:30-23:00, 19:30-23:00, or 23:00-07:00, assigned as a call shift
• Sleep policy: If working more than 4 hours after 23:00, 8 hours off from clock-out
• Weekend call: Every other or every third weekend, as a full weekend with a call shift assigned
• Call response time: 30 minutes
• Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or need to pay for the shift

• Department: OR, Surgery General (Major)
• Suites: 14 for general surgery (28 total)
• Average cases per day: 20-40 for general surgery
• Common cases: Lap chole, lap colon, lap appy, cysto, DaVinci robotic cases, hysterectomy, vascular, ENT, urology
• Scrubbing required for RNs: N/A
• Charge nurse helps with cases
• Works alongside the surgical technologist in the OR
• Floating: Possible to other surgery teams or SPD if qualified
• Scrubs: Hospital provided

Orientation

• 12 non-billable orientation hours; guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
• Unit-specific orientation up to one week if needed, plus hospital-wide orientation
