Med Surg RN (Registered Nurse)

Location: Dixon, Illinois (two hours west of Chicago, short commute to Chicago) Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (7A-7P / 7P-7A), 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the licensing application has been initiated
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• 2 years of Med Surg experience
• Must pass a drug screen with a negative result for all panels (facility is a Drug-Free Campus)

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), as pediatric patients may be present

Unit Details

• Department: Med Surg
• Beds: 23 on the 4th floor and 14 on the 3rd floor
• Patient ratio: 1:5 ideal, up to 1:7
• Nurse aide (PCT) ratio: 1:8
• Common diagnoses: NSTEMI, COPD, pneumonia, sepsis, AKI
• Titrating drips: Not required of RNs
• Charge nurse/house supervisor: Yes
• Telemetry: Yes. Monitor techs read the strips, and RNs sign off on them throughout the shift.
• Respiratory therapy equipment: Home units only at this time; heated high flow is the highest level of care on the unit

Float Scope

• May float to ICU, ER, or BHC only if the candidate has the required level of experience. Otherwise, no floating outside Med Surg.

Schedule and Expectations

• Weekends: Typically every other weekend
• Holidays: Typically every other holiday
• On-call: None. Low census can occur but is rare.
• Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks, with no penalty or obligation to pay for the shift
• Orientation: 1 shift of department-specific orientation; binder provided

• Any scrub color, closed-toe shoes, good hygiene
