Emergency Department RN

Location: Elizabethtown, Kentucky Employment Type: Clinical, Nursing Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: 3x12 (7p-7a), weekend and holiday rotation Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Role Summary

The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person and a caring environment focused on healing and wellness. Nursing practice is based on evidence, current research, hospital and department policies, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. The RN coordinates and provides direct patient care on the unit, including nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments; facilitates admission, transfer, and discharge; provides patient and family-centered education; and supports care coordination and individualized treatment planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs and documents comprehensive assessments, identifies patient risk factors, and develops a prioritized problem list
• Determines desired outcomes with the patient and family and implements patient care therapies and procedures within scope of practice
• Recognizes and responds to changes in patient condition and conducts ongoing assessment of procedures and therapies
• Delegates tasks and oversees team members, monitoring the accuracy and completeness of delegated care
• Facilitates discharge by executing orders in a timely manner and coordinating the discharge plan with Case Management and others
• Provides input into patient and nurse assignments based on staffing, unit activity, and patient acuity
• Participates in unit quality improvement activities and core measures such as patient satisfaction, patient falls, pressure ulcers, CAUTIs, and documentation audits

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Kentucky
• 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with ED experience within the last year
• BLS certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
