Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Randallstown, Maryland Contract Length: 14 weeks Employment Type: Travel/Contract Shift: Night, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week Scrub Color: Navy blue

Unit Overview

• 54-bed Emergency Department
• Averages about 120 visits per day
• Treats neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Primary Stroke Center with Gold Plus recognition from the American Heart Association
• STEMI patients may be transferred when cardiac catheterization intervention is needed
• Care-management and behavioral-health support available

Schedule and Time Off

• Weekends are Saturday and Sunday; every other weekend is required
• Holiday coverage is required during the contract period
• One pre-approved time-off request is permitted per contract
• Requested time off must be included in the contract and reviewed with the manager
• Block schedule: not accepted

Float Scope and Ratios

• Float within scope to meet needs: two rapid evaluation units for urgent care and critical care
• Supports the 2 locked Behavioral Health units in the ED, with a 1:6 ratio
• Patient ratio experience of 1:4 to 6 for the ED
• Behavioral Health units have a security team

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maryland
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• ED - Emergency Department experience (2 years)
• ED - Emergency Department experience within the last year
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association or RQI
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or RQI
• PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support issued by American Heart Association or RQI
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• CEN certification
• Precepting and training experience

Pre-Start Requirements

• Background check within 6 months of start, covering all locations lived or worked in the past 7 years, updated annually
• Education verification (third-party) and HHS/OIG and EPLS/GSA/SAM checks
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Physical exam completed within 1 year of start
• Negative TB test (PPD, GOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire updated annually
• Immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and hepatitis B (vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination as applicable)
• Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Respirator fit test completed onsite; PAPR training provided if the candidate fails
• Dysrhythmia/EKG exam (basic or advanced, per unit description) from an approved vendor, with an 80% overall passing score and 100% on the lethal rhythms section; an onsite exam may also be required
• Government-issued photo ID; I-9 and E-Verify
• Two professional references within 2 years of start
• Work history verification for 2 workplaces within the last 7 years
• Badge photo, signed floating and time-and-attendance policies, and signed attendance policy
