Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients with respiratory insufficiencies to establish diagnosis-based treatment strategies.
• Administer complex care modalities, manage specialized equipment, and monitor patients' real-time conditions.
• Continuously assess medication responses and treatment performance, and adjust care plans based on patient progress.
• Educate patients and caregivers on managing their conditions and connect them with community support programs.
• Respond to life-threatening resuscitation codes as a key member of the urgent response team.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Texas
• Registered Respiratory Therapist with 2 years of experience
• Registered Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• PALS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• Driver's License

Onboarding Requirements

Health and Immunizations:

• Health statement or physical exam before the first assignment, updated annually
• MMR: documented proof of two MMR vaccines or a positive IgG titer. Declinations are not accepted. If the titer is negative, two MMR doses four weeks apart are required.
• Varicella: documented proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or verified history of varicella or herpes zoster. Declinations are not accepted.
• Hepatitis B: documentation of the three-vaccine series, or a signed and dated declination.
• Tdap: valid for 10 years from the administration date. Declinations and attestations are not accepted.
• Influenza vaccine: required for the flu season of October 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027. Exemptions and declinations are accepted, but the candidate must wear a mask at all times.
• TB screening: two-step PPD or IGRA. The first PPD must be within one year, and the second within 30 days of start, or a negative IGRA within 90 days of start. A TB questionnaire must be updated annually.
• Respirator fit test: required for all travelers, updated annually. Preferably completed before start, but it can be completed onsite. PAPR fit tests are not completed onsite.

Testing and Training:

• Specialty exam: completed before the first assignment and updated every three years. Minimum score of 80% or the national benchmark passing score. Two attempts allowed.
• Core competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, and OSHA topics): completed within one year of start and updated every three years. Minimum score of 80% or the national benchmark passing score. Two attempts allowed.
• Respiratory therapy contract worker onboarding education attestation: completed as part of the pre-hire six hours. The agency must upload it with the traveler's signature and date.
• 11-panel drug screen: completed within 30 days before the first assignment and updated annually. Proof of all 11 drugs must be shown. An MRO review is included for prescriptions or negative-dilute results.

Background and Verification:

• Criminal background check: completed within 90 days of first assignment and updated every year. Includes Social Security trace, OIG search, National Sex Offender search, and other searches.
• Exclusion list check: run within 90 days of start and rerun after a break in service over 90 days.
• Education verification: completed within 90 days of start. Diplomas are not accepted. Official transcripts are needed if verification fails.
• Employment verification: third-party verification for the past seven years, updated every year, and must match the resume or profile.
• Confirmation of assignment on agency letterhead, provided at initial assignment and updated with each extension.

Other:

• Driver's license or state ID that is not expired, matches the address on file, and shows front and back.
• Badge photo: forward-facing headshot with a white or blue background, with no alterations or filters.
