Surgery Tech

Location: Golden, Colorado Contract Length: 13 weeks Employment Type: Clinical, Non-Nursing Schedule: 3 x 12-hour day shifts (0645-1915), Monday-Friday, no set day off; weekend call and holiday shifts required Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Job Summary

• Performs duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure.
• Functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and reports to Surgical Services management.
• Supports system-wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices, and actively participates in the surgical operations safety plan.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria and maintains the sterile field.
• Recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes.
• Prepares the operating room and instruments for procedures and assists the surgeon(s) within the ORT scope of practice.
• Identifies emergency situations and responds using sound judgment.
• May assist with sterile processing.
• Handles room turnover, cleaning, and preparation for the next procedure.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Surgical Technologist license in Colorado
• Two years of Surgical Technologist experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist
• Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician (ORT) program, or graduation from a non-accredited surgical technology program within the past six months (not eligible for Tech in Surgery exam), or two years of scrub technician experience in hospital or military surgical services within the last three years
• Experience in a hospital setting
• Experience in supervisory roles
• Ability to scrub
