Description
Medical Surgical RN
Location
- Bowling Green, Kentucky
Assignment details
- Per diem, short-term contract
- Contract length: 5 weeks
- Unit: MCBG 6B Medical/Surgical
- Home unit: MedSurg 4A
- 12-hour night shifts, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Approximately 1:6 patient ratio
- Approximately 24 hours of facility orientation
Required qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kentucky
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum of two years of recent Med Surg experience
- Med Surg experience within the last year
- Current BLS certification
- Experience in an acute care setting
- Experience working with vascular patients
- Experience with central-line care
- Experience with Meditech
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized plans of care
- Administer medications, treatments, IV therapies, blood products, insulin, and heparin according to orders and unit policy
- Provide post-operative monitoring and care for abdominal, vascular, endocrine, and general surgical patients
- Monitor for changes in cardiac, respiratory, neurological, renal, and gastrointestinal status
- Manage peripheral and central lines, PICCs, ports, drains, chest tubes, wound vacs, and other medical-surgical equipment
- Provide wound care, isolation precautions, oxygen therapy, suctioning, and respiratory support as appropriate
- Support patients requiring peritoneal dialysis/CAPD, pre- and post-hemodialysis care, or renal-failure monitoring
- Participate in rapid-response and emergency-care processes
- Collaborate with physicians, hospitalists, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, recovery, and discharge instructions
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation in Meditech
Scheduling notes
- Clinicians are generally expected to work three shifts per week
- Holiday coverage may be required
- Time-off requests are reviewed based on facility needs
- Exact shift start/end times, weekend requirements, and any minimum per diem commitment will be confirmed during scheduling
