Med Surg RN

Location: Petersburg, West Virginia (Potomac Highlands region) Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Nights, 12 hours (7 PM to 7 AM), 48 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA) certification
• At least 1 year of experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Travel experience

Facility and Unit Details

• Med Surg unit with 18 beds and a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Nurse aide ratios range from 1:6 to 1:9, depending on staffing
• Common diagnoses include COPD, CHF, total joint replacements, hysterectomies, and general post-op patients
• No drips; RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Telemetry (Tele) is on the unit, and an SCU RN monitors and reads strips
• Charge nurse: a designated day shift charge nurse; on nights, one of the three nurses is assigned charge along with patients
• House supervisor available
• RT equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP if established at home

Scheduling and Expectations

• Weekends: every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holidays: rotated with permanent staff
• Scheduling: requests are considered, and one generous block of time is generally given once a month
• Orientation: Day 1 to learn the unit and requirements, followed by two 12-hour shifts
• Travelers will be trained on unfamiliar tasks
• No call or standby requirement
• No floating requirement
• No specific scrub color required
