    Description

    PCU/Step down Float RN

Location: Olympia, Washington Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks Start Date: ASAP Unit: PCU

    Schedule

    • Night shift, 4x12 hours, 19:00 to 07:30
    • 12 hours per day, 48 hours per week
    • Check with the manager before offering any 48-hour-per-week contract

    Facility

    • Short-term acute care hospital
    • 325 total staffed beds
    • Charting system: EPIC

    Patient Population and Ratios

    • Patients may include ER boarded patients, telemetry, med surg, and others.
    • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 to 1:6, depending on unit acuity.

    Role and Responsibilities

    • This is a float team that fills staffing needs across the institution.
    • Some charge responsibilities may apply on two very small units. These units are typically staffed with 1 to 2 RNs, supported by LPNs and CNAs. On these units, the sole RN functions as the Charge Nurse, with core duties such as managing staffing needs, bed flow, and general coordination. This is not the same as leading a full-size unit.
    • Floating to another facility within a reasonable distance may be required, and a float policy acknowledgment must be signed.

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid RN license in Washington
    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
    • PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience of at least 1 year, including experience within the last year
    • Experience in charge roles, including charge nurse experience

    Certifications to Verify

The following may be required depending on the unit requirements. Verify against the job's requirements before submitting a candidate: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, IV certification, MAB, NIH Stroke, and CPI. If international education is involved, a CES report may be accepted while education verification is in process.

    Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

    • Background: Check completed within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived or worked in the past 7 years. Must be updated annually. Includes SSN trace, death master index, county and nationwide criminal searches, national sex offender search, FACIS Level 3, and education verification. An international search is required if the candidate has lived or worked internationally in the past 7 years.
    • Background disqualifiers: Open or active hits, any felony cases, more than one DUI charge, or any sex offender hit will result in cancellation.
    • WA State Patrol (WATCH) search: Required by state law within 90 days of start.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG: Required within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
    • Multistate license (if applicable): RNs with a compact license from another state must complete the WA Multi-State Licensed Demographic Attestation before starting. Working in Washington on a non-Washington multistate license requires a 6-hour suicide prevention training from the WA Board of Nursing approved list, with certification of completion.
    • Drug screen: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start. Instant results are acceptable.
    • Physical exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by an MD, NP, PA, DO, or APRN. Must indicate freedom from infectious disease and ability to work with or without accommodation.
    • TB screening: IGRA/QuantiFERON or 2 PPDs within 12 months of start. Positive TB history requires proof of past positive and a chest X-ray.
    • Immunizations: Tdap within 10 years (declination accepted). MMR (2 doses or positive titer), varicella (2 doses or positive titer), and Hepatitis B (series with titer, or signed declination) are required. Flu vaccine or declination is required during flu season (9/1 to 3/30). COVID vaccination record is preferred, and declinations are not required.
    • Respirator fit testing: Required for travel. Testing is completed onsite if no valid record exists within 1 year.
    • RespSafety clearance: Required for travel, renewed annually.
    • Annual regulatory modules: Online modules, approximately 3.5 hours, required annually.
    • Skills checklist: Required for the applicable unit, updated annually.
    • Competency exam: Required as applicable by profession and specialty.
    • Employment history: Application covering at least the last 5 years of employment, with gaps and overlaps explained.
    • References: At least 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty or setting.

    Olympia, WA

    About

As Washington State's capital city, Olympia offers an ideal mix of cultural and natural attractions. Its unique downtown waterfront offers diverse shopping and dining venues, with Percival Landing Park at its heart. The Park provides some of the best views of the Olympic Mountains, the marina, the Capitol building and the area's abundant wildlife. Watch for sea otters, seals, bald eagles and even the occasional pod of orca whales as part of the area’s natural splendor. It also serves as a hub for special events and public celebrations like the annual Olympic Harbor Day Festival held over Labor Day Weekend, one of the largest maritime festivals in the state. Paddleboarding, sailing, boating and fishing for salmon or sea-run cutthroat trout are all popular pursuits. Visitors and residents often gather at the year-round Olympia Farmers Market for live music and browsing handcrafted items, baked goods, fresh local produce and shellfish like oysters and clams.
