RN, Neuro Stepdown & EMU

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (48 hours/week)

Unit and Staffing

• Unit: 10 East (Neuro Stepdown & EMU, Epilepsy Monitoring Unit)
• Beds: 31 total (25 Stepdown, 6 EMU)
• Ratios: 1:3 for Stepdown; 1:5-6 for EMU
• Charge Nurse: Charge nurse 24/7
• Nurse Aides: 4 per shift, 1:8-9 ratio
• Floating: Possibly to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse
• BLS certification
• NIHSS certification
• Stepdown-qualified RN experience
• Strong overall neuro experience
• History of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIHSS
• NIHSS in hand at time of submission
• COVID-19 vaccination (medical or religious exemptions available through an exemption form, which must be submitted ASAP for council review)

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS certification
• Experience with EVDs (perm staff would likely be assigned these patients)

Clinical Details

• Patient types: Higher-acuity neuroscience patients, EVDs, TPA, strokes, EMU, seizures, craniotomies
• TPA patients: Any patient within 24 hours post-TPA is managed by perm staff only.
• Titration: Only by physician orders in a stepdown setting. Some protocols may allow titration, with education provided.
• Common titratable/set-rate drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin
• Respiratory therapy: RT is available 24/7. RNs are not required to have vent experience. Floor vents are usually on a set setting, managed by RT and physician.
• Telemetry: The unit has telemetry. RNs do not have to read strips.

Schedule

• Shifts: 3 twelve-hour night shifts (7p-7:30a); three in a row possible but not guaranteed, so travelers need to be flexible
• Weekends: Every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule
• Holidays: Travelers are expected to work the holiday rotation.
• On-call/standby: Unknown
• Scrub color: Royal Blue
• Orientation: 2 shifts on the unit

Submission Requirements

• Candidates can only be submitted to one position at a time across the health system.
• Driver's license address must be more than 50 miles from the facility.
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years.
• Previous travelers who worked there for 1 full year must have been gone for 2 years.
• Travel teams must be submitted together in one email.
• Only 2 candidates may be submitted per opening. If the position is at the maximum, submissions are held until a spot opens.
• Any license hits must be disclosed at the time of submission.
