MedSurg 5S RN (Registered Nurse) Float, Bridgeport, West Virginia

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Days, 12-hour shifts (7a-7p; 7p-7a) Hours: 36 per week

Role Overview

• Float positions to cover Ortho units
• Units are med/surg with Ortho, CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, and Oncology patients (permanent staff administer chemo)
• Ratios are mainly 1:5-6 on days and nights, depending on acuity. Once or twice a month a nurse may have 7 patients near the end of a shift.
• Every unit has a charge nurse. Day charge does not take patients; night charge does.
• Nurse aides (CNAs) are used on all units.
• If floating to Critical Care, nurses are assigned med/surg or stepdown patients (per a 5/14/2021 update).
• Floor-specific orientation is 1-2 shifts with a preceptor.
• Manager is open to traveler requests to work primarily on 6N and will make every effort to block schedule if requested.

Required Qualifications

• Experienced RN
• WV or compact nursing license
• BLS certification
• Copy of candidate's unexpired driver's license must be included with submissions (50-mile radius rule)

Preferred Qualifications

• Medical-surgical with telemetry experience
• Low-level Ortho experience

Software Familiarity (not a credential)

• EPIC (EMR)

Schedule and Work Expectations

• Every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday, both days and nights
• Works the holiday rotation schedule with permanent staff
• Telemetry: monitor techs are present on most units, but RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
• Respiratory therapy is in-house 24/7 and manages CPAP and BiPAP. RNs perform aerosol treatments for non-vented patients and EKGs.
• IV team is available house-wide until 10 pm Monday-Friday and until 3:30 pm on weekends
• In-house pharmacy 24/7 using Accudose

Dress Code

• Royal blue scrubs
• No artificial nails
