Travel Adolescent Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) – Nights
Start Date: 04/15/26
Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Nights | 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 34.5 hours/week
Care Setting: Acute Psychiatric Unit

Unit: Adolescent Psychiatry
A busy acute psychiatric facility is seeking a compassionate and experienced Travel Adolescent Psych RN to support a 27-bed child and adolescent behavioral health unit. The unit serves pediatric patients ages 5–17 and focuses on therapeutic engagement, emotional safety, and stabilization.
Unit Overview

Total Beds: 27
-
Child Unit: 11 beds + 2 Extended Observation Beds

Adolescent Unit: 14 beds
-
Average Census: ~11 patients
-
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6 (days and nights); minimum of 3 RNs on the unit

Common Diagnoses: ADHD, depression, mood disorders, autism, intellectual disabilities, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and substance use history

Average Length of Stay: ~3 weeks (may vary)

IVs: Only in emergent/code situations

Restraints: Rare; covered during orientation
Scheduling

Shift Times: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Holiday Requirement: At least one major holiday during the season

Floating: Travelers float first; may float within psych units (adult, pediatric, psych ED, detox, rehab)

Call: None
Responsibilities
-
Provide therapeutic nursing care for child and adolescent psychiatric patients
-
Maintain patient safety and emotional support through engagement and observation
-
Administer medications and complete required documentation
-
Collaborate with interdisciplinary behavioral health teams
-
Respond to behavioral escalations using approved de-escalation techniques
Requirements
-
Active RN license (license to submit required)
-
Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience
-
Some pediatric clinical experience required
-
First-time travelers considered

Required Certifications:
-
BLS (AHA)
-
ACLS
-
PALS
-
CPI or PMCS (must be obtained prior to start)

Facility De-escalation / MOAB training (as required)

BSN preferred (not required)

Strong communication, empathy, and behavioral management skills
