Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct care to a complex patient population within an interdisciplinary team. The role involves assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, with a focus on neuroscience ambulatory care. The RN also directs and oversees care provided by other caregivers through delegation and coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment

• Collect comprehensive patient data relevant to health status.
• Perform age and disease-specific assessments independently.
• Recognize changes in clinical and diagnostic status.
• Identify patient/family education needs considering age, disease, and cultural differences.

Planning

• Develop and coordinate patient/family-centered care plans with prioritized goals.
• Formulate age and disease-specific goals based on assessment data.

Implementation

• Communicate and coordinate the care plan with patients, families, nursing colleagues, and healthcare team members.
• Provide timely, organized, and evidence-based nursing care and treatments.
• Educate patients and families to ensure understanding of care plans.
• Perform medication administration using advanced bar-scanning and documentation technologies.
• Document assessments, interventions, and evaluations continuously at the point of care.
• Facilitate multidisciplinary patient discharge planning to ensure safe transitions.

Evaluation

• Evaluate patient progress toward goals.
• Use critical thinking to respond to changes in patient condition.
• Initiate interventions for unexpected patient responses.

Additional Duties

• Identify and address ethical issues in practice.
• Enhance patient satisfaction opportunities.
• Maintain required competencies, certifications, and continuing education.
• Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses.
• Physically able to lift at least 35 lbs., push/pull 10 lbs., and stand for 6+ hours daily.
• Follow organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Requirements

• Education: BSN in progress or willingness to obtain within 3 years of hire (for hires on/after Nov 2019).
• Experience: Minimum 6 months relevant nursing experience OR participation in a Nurse Residency Program.
• Licensure: Active New Jersey RN license required.
• Certifications: BLS certification required.

Contract Length

• Approximately 17 weeks.
