Position Overview

Job Description

• Provide direct patient care using the nursing process: assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document patient needs and responses.
• Ensure safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team to coordinate care.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and document accordingly.
• Identify and address patient and family learning and discharge needs throughout care.
• Supervise Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and non-licensed assistive personnel.
• Float between departments or local locations within 20 miles as needed.
• Work with a medically complex, long-term stay patient population in a Med/Surg level setting without direct ICU escalation.
• Recognize and respond to patient deterioration or de-escalation.
• Charge nurse experience preferred but not required.
• Weekend shifts and on-call/call-back as needed.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 2 years current experience in an 18+ bed telemetry/progressive care unit.
• Must be a team player, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Completion of at least one 13-week travel nursing assignment.
• Must successfully pass a Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia (BCA) test prior to or during the first week of assignment (one retest allowed; failure results in contract cancellation).

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience with Epic Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

Education Requirements

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required.

Certifications & Licensure

• Current nursing license in New Mexico or a Compact State.
• BLS and ACLS certifications from American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross.
• Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia/Dysrhythmia Assessment (BCA) exam must be passed.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred.

This role is ideal for experienced PCU nurses comfortable with complex patient care in a non-acute, long-term care setting who are flexible and able to float between units.
