Description
Radiation Therapist
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Operate radiation therapy equipment and CT simulator with proficiency.
- Demonstrate proper positioning, radiation safety, infection control, and quality assurance techniques.
- Communicate treatment plans and techniques clearly to patients, families, peers, and physicians.
- Interpret and follow prescriptions and treatment plans accurately.
- Assist patients, families, peers, and physicians as needed.
- Some weekend call and patient transportation may be required.
- Maintain excellent communication skills and ensure quality of treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure timely and precise treatments and simulations.
- Maintain treatment accuracy including dose records, positioning, and prescription changes.
- Verify physician approval and treatment consent before radiation delivery.
- Minimize patient exposure and perform accurate patient positioning and verification imaging.
- Utilize treatment devices appropriately (wedges, bolus, masks, vacloks, etc.).
- Maintain knowledge of equipment performance and report malfunctions.
- Perform daily output checks on equipment.
- Provide patient education on radiation therapy procedures.
- Meet continuing education requirements for ARRT renewal and annual competency criteria.
- Stay current with oncology treatments, techniques, and equipment.
- Improve efficiency, communication, and customer relations.
- Ensure proper charge capture and protect patient confidentiality.
- Coordinate patient treatment with dosimetry.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in Kentucky
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist, including experience within the last year
- Associate's degree or certificate program in Radiation Therapy, Radiologic Technology, or a similar healthcare field
- ARRT certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy or a similar healthcare field.
Additional Information
- Some weekend call may be required.
- Some patient transportation duties may be required.
