Job Opportunity: RN Medical/Surgical (Travel)

Location: Manhattan, Kansas
Facility: KSWIC VC Hospital
Hospital System: Ascension Health
Employment Type: Travel
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 1830-0700, every other weekend
Hours: 36 hours/week


Job Requirements

  • Active Kansas Registered Nurse License or Compact Multistate RN License
  • Minimum 1 year hospital RN experience
  • Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association required)

Required Credentials and Compliance

Licenses & Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Must be AHA certified
  • Nursys Verification: Within 30 days prior to start; disciplinary actions require FACIS Questionnaire
  • License/Certificate Verification: Current license and primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
  • NIH Certification: Updated yearly for Group A, every 2 years for Groups B-F
  • MOAB Moderate Risk De-Escalation Training
  • Ascension Core Competencies: HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within a year and updated yearly (minimum 80% score)
  • Ascension EKG Exam: Passing score of at least 80%, two attempts allowed
  • Ascension Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist completed within one year of start and updated annually

Health & Immunizations

  • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
  • Influenza Vaccine: Recommended for flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • Positive PPD/Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire: Required; must provide documentation and annual updates
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Required within 90 days prior to start
  • Fit Test: Required annually; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite

Background & Verification

  • Criminal Background Check: Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually or after break in service >90 days
  • Employment Verification: Past 7 years, third-party verification required; updated annually or after break in service >90 days
  • Education Verification: Must be completed within 90 days of start; diplomas not accepted, official transcripts required if verification fails
  • Professional References: At least two professional references required prior to first assignment
  • Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System): Run within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service >90 days

Onboarding & Other Requirements

  • Ascension Color Vision Test: Completed prior to start and updated every 3 years
  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation: Must be completed and uploaded
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding: Completed onsite prior to start
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip Training: Pre-hire modules required for non-allied positions
  • Ascension Badge Photo: Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment: Provided upon initial assignment and updates with extensions
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Completed within 30 days prior to start and updated annually; includes testing for 12 specified drugs

Summary

This is a 13-week travel RN Medical/Surgical position on nights at KSWIC VC Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas, under Ascension Health. Candidates must hold an active Kansas or Compact RN license, have at least one year of hospital experience, and current BLS certification. Extensive credentialing, health, immunization, background checks, and onboarding requirements must be met prior to assignment start.
