Job Description
- Position in Labor and Delivery unit (6 East) at Ascension Saint Alexius Medical Center.
Required Credentials and Certifications
Licenses & Professional Credentials (Required for Submission)
- Current nursing license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Driver's License/State ID (must not be expired and must match address on file).
- Resume/Profile submission.
- At least two professional references prior to first assignment.
Certifications (Required for Onboarding)
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program, AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics)
Exams and Testing (Required for Onboarding)
- Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%, updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% or national benchmark, updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80%, updated yearly)
- Ascension Cerner Test-Out (Cerner test results and training checklist with signed attestation)
- Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills, completed within one year of start, updated annually)
Onboarding Requirements
- Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training)
- Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (completed onsite)
- Ascension Biometric Consent
- Ascension Nova StatStrip (pre-hire modules for non-allied positions)
- Ascension Badge Photo (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations)
Health and Immunization Requirements (Required for Onboarding)
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted).
- Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted).
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Influenza Vaccine: Optional, but if declined during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31), mask wearing required.
- Fit Test: Required for all travelers; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite.
- 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Required with specific timing prior to start; TB questionnaire updated annually.
- Positive PPD requires negative chest X-ray within one year and annual TB questionnaire.
- Health Statement: Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
- Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.
Background and Verification (Required for Onboarding)
- Criminal Background Check including Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry (updated annually or if break in service > 90 days).
- EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) check within 90 days of start.
- Education Verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start.
- Employment Verification for past 7 years, updated annually or if break in service > 90 days.
- Confirmation of Assignment documentation upon initial assignment and each extension.
Optional / Additional Information
- Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (optional for onboarding, uploaded by unit leader).
- Influenza Vaccine Exemption/Declination accepted with mask requirement during flu season.
- Hiring Manager Evaluation (post-assignment).
- Legal documentation of name change (if applicable).
This position requires thorough credentialing, compliance with Ascension Health’s onboarding protocols, and adherence to health and safety standards specific to Labor and Delivery nursing.
