Job Opportunity: RN ICU - Texas (Waco)

Position Details

  • Specialty: RN ICU
  • Location: Waco, Texas
  • Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Unit: Conglomerate ICU unit including medical, surgical, and cardiovascular
  • Experience Required: Minimum of 3 years ICU experience
  • Floating: Must be able to float between ICU and step-down critical care service lines

Required Credentials and Certifications

  • Licenses:
    • Current nursing license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
    • Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
    • Valid Driver’s License or State ID (not expired, must match address on file)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (American Heart Association)
    • ACLS (American Heart Association)
    • NIH Certification (Group A updated yearly; Groups B-F every 2 years)
  • Testing and Exams:
    • Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years)
    • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA; minimum 80% score, updated yearly)
    • Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80% passing score, updated as per latest edition)
    • Ascension Epic Test-Out (Epic test results and training checklist with signed attestation)
    • Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical, completed within one year of start, updated annually)
  • Onboarding Requirements:
    • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (completed onsite)
    • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (pre-hire 6-hour module)
    • Ascension Nova StatStrip (pre-hire modules for non-allied positions)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
  • Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA: Required with specific timing; if positive, chest X-ray and TB questionnaire required
  • Positive PPD: Negative chest X-ray within one year and annual TB questionnaire
  • Fit Test: Required for all travelers; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite; updated annually
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start, updated annually; includes 12 specified drugs

Professional Documentation

  • Resume/Profile: Required for submission
  • Two Professional References: Required prior to first assignment
  • Criminal Background Check: Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually or after break in service >90 days
  • EPLS (Excluded Parties List System): Run within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service >90 days
  • Education Verification: Relevant to clinical work; completed within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service >90 days
  • Employment Verification: Past 7 years; updated annually or after break in service >90 days
  • Confirmation of Assignment: Provided upon initial assignment and each extension on agency letterhead

Optional/Additional Information

  • Ascension Influenza Vaccine Exemption/Declination: Accepted with mask requirement during flu season
  • Ascension Unit Specific Checklist: Optional for onboarding; uploaded by unit leader within a week
  • Hiring Manager Evaluation: Optional post-assignment evaluation
  • Name Change Documentation: Optional legal documentation
  • Badge Photo: Optional forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations
  • Exit Survey: Optional survey to be completed within 72 hours after assignment completion

This position requires a highly skilled ICU nurse with flexibility to work across multiple critical care areas and compliance with extensive credentialing and health requirements.
